Rahul Gandhi's Student Interaction in Darbhanga Confirmed at New Venue Amid Controversy

Rahul Gandhi, a Congress leader, has been granted permission to engage with students in Darbhanga, Bihar, on 15 May. However, the interaction will occur at a different venue than initially planned by the organisers. The district administration announced this late Wednesday night, specifying that the event will take place at the Town Hall.

Rahul Gandhis Programme Moves to New Venue

The decision followed a press conference in Patna where Abhay Dubey, AICC national media convenor, claimed that the original venue request was denied due to influence from the ruling JDU-BJP coalition. Dubey stated, "The district welfare officer in Darbhanga has written to us informing that it will not grant permission for the programme on May 15. No reason has been given. It seems a repressive measure taken at the behest of the states ruling JDU-BJP combine."

Permission and Venue Change

The planned interaction is part of Shiksha Nyay Samvad, a public outreach initiative aimed at raising awareness about education and social justice. Despite the venue change, Gandhi remains committed to his cause. Dubey expressed hope that the administration would reconsider its decision, stating, "We have urged the Darbhanga administration to review their decision. We hope good sense will prevail."

Gandhi's programme focuses on engaging with Dalit students to promote educational justice. The event aims to highlight the importance of education in achieving social equity. Dubey emphasised that Gandhi's efforts should not be politicised, as they are intended to foster public awareness.

Additional Engagements

In addition to his engagement in Darbhanga, Gandhi is expected to attend a screening of "Phule," a biopic about Jyotirao Phule and Savitribai Phule, in Patna. This film celebrates the lives of these prominent Dalit icons and aligns with Gandhi's focus on social justice issues.

Krishna Allavaru, AICC Bihar in-charge, mentioned that Gandhi's visit includes both educational and cultural components. The screening of "Phule" underscores his commitment to highlighting historical figures who have contributed significantly to social reform.

Gandhi's dedication to promoting education as a tool for social change remains steadfast despite challenges. His interactions aim to inspire dialogue and action towards achieving educational equity across Bihar.
