Rahul Gandhi, the opposition leader in the Lok Sabha, made headlines on Sunday by joining local fishermen in a pond in Begusarai, Bihar. He participated in a traditional fishing method during his campaign trail. The Congress leader was seen in a video wearing his usual white t-shirt and black pants while pulling a blue net from the water alongside locals.

During this fishing event, slogans of "Rahul Gandhi zindabad" echoed continuously. The event also saw the presence of several Mahagathbandhan alliance leaders. Among them was Mukesh Sahani, the Vikassheel Insaan Party (VIP) chief and the alliance's deputy CM candidate, who hails from the fishing community.

Political Allies Join Fishing Expedition

Kanhaiya Kumar, another Congress leader and native of Begusarai, accompanied Gandhi. He too jumped into the pond to assist with pulling out the net, revealing their catch. This camaraderie among political allies highlighted their unity ahead of the Bihar assembly elections.

The Bihar assembly elections are set for November 6 and 11, with results expected on November 14. This fishing expedition was part of a broader campaign effort to connect with local communities and showcase solidarity with regional traditions.

Criticism of Prime Minister Modi

On the same day, Rahul Gandhi criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi at a rally. He accused Modi of being "remote-controlled" by big business interests like Ambani and Adani. Gandhi also claimed that Modi was "scared" of US President Donald Trump.

"Having a huge chest does not make you strong," he stated, referencing Mahatma Gandhi's ability to challenge British superpowers despite his frail build. He contrasted this with Modi's boastful claims about his 56-inch chest.

Historical Comparisons

Gandhi drew parallels between Modi's actions and those of former PM Indira Gandhi during 1971. He claimed that unlike Indira Gandhi who stood firm against US threats, Modi halted Operation Sindoor when Trump intervened. This comparison aimed to highlight perceived weaknesses in Modi's leadership.

According to Gandhi, major decisions by Modi's government such as GST and demonetisation were designed to harm small businesses while benefiting larger corporations. These allegations form part of his broader critique against economic policies under Modi's administration.
