Raghav Chadha Criticises Exorbitant Airfare to Prayagraj for Maha Kumbh, Calls for Price Regulation

AAP Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chadha has raised concerns over the significant increase in airfare to Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, where the Maha Kumbh is currently taking place. He described this as an exploitation of faith by airlines. Chadha stated that ticket prices have skyrocketed from Rs 5,000 to Rs 60,000 during the event and urged the Central government to intervene.

Chadha Calls for Airfare Price Cap for Maha Kumbh

Chadha emphasised the importance of the Maha Kumbh for followers of Sanatan Dharma, calling it a profound celebration of faith and spirituality. This sacred festival, occurring in Prayagraj after 144 years, draws millions of devotees from India and around the world who come to bathe, meditate, and engage in spiritual practices. He criticised airlines for turning this holy event into a profiteering opportunity.

Airfare Surge Concerns

The AAP leader highlighted the drastic increase in flight costs to Prayagraj. Normally priced between Rs 5,000 and Rs 8,000, tickets are now being sold for Rs 50,000 to Rs 60,000. Chadha condemned this blatant profiteering by airlines as unfair to devotees wishing to attend this sacred event. He called on the government to either cap flight prices or ensure affordable travel options for pilgrims.

Chadha recalled past successes in addressing travel-related issues. "When we raised the issue of overpriced food at airports in Parliament, the government listened, and Udaan Yatri Cafe was introduced for passengers," he said. He expressed hope that his current appeal would prompt the government to direct airlines to offer reasonably priced tickets for pilgrims heading to the Maha Kumbh.

Government Intervention Urged

Chadha's remarks come as Delhi prepares for Assembly elections on February 5. He urged the government to take swift action to prevent airlines from exploiting devotees financially during this significant religious event. His call for intervention aims to ensure that all pilgrims can participate in the Maha Kumbh without facing exorbitant travel costs.

By highlighting these issues, Chadha seeks to protect devotees from financial exploitation while attending a deeply spiritual gathering. His appeal underscores the need for affordable travel options during major religious events like the Maha Kumbh.
