Kirandeep is a citizen of the United Kingdom and holds a passport of that country. There is however no case filed against her in India.

The police said that Kirandeep was supposed to travel to Birmingham on an Air India flight scheduled for 2.30 pm. At 12.20 pm she reported to the immigration counter. However, there is a Look out Circular against here and hence the immigration did not permit her to travel and detained here, airport officials said.

Moreover there is no concrete evidence or an FIR being registered with the Punjab police or the Central Agencies regarding Kirandeep being an active member of the proscribed Babbar Khalsa International, while she was staying in the UK.

She has been detained as a precautionary measure by the police and this is under the same provision which the family members and acquaintances of the absconding accused are being questioned, a police source told OneIndia.

Kaur had been questioned at the Jallupur Kheda village in connection with the alleged foreign funding and activities relating to Amritpal Singh.

The police had last month launched a crackdown against Amritpal Singh and the members of his outfit. He however has managed to successfully dodge the police since the chase began in Jalandhar on March 18. Since the chase, several of his associates have been arrested.

Amritpal Singh shot to fame after he quit his job as a lorry driver in Dubai and came to India. Since then he has styled himself on the lines of Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale and has been seeking a separate Khalistan nation. Following the attack on the Ajnala police station by his followers, seeking the release of his aide, the radar on him has been high. Since the attack the police have with the help of several agencies launched a manhunt for him.

There have also been reports that Amritpal may have tried and fled to Nepal. However videos of him that surfaced in the wake of these report suggest that he is very much in the country and has no plans of fleeing the nation.
