Quad Members Oppose Any Unilateral Actions That Seek To Change Status Quo in Indo-Pacific

Leaders of the Quad (Quadrilateral Security Dialogue) countries met in Hiroshima on May 20 and discussed a wide range of topics. Their agenda included the development of robust infrastructure for technology and health in the Indo-Pacific region, addressing climate change, and enhancing connectivity in the area.

Terrorism, particularly incidents originating from across borders, was another crucial subject on the agenda. In a joint statement following the Quad Summit, the heads of the member states-India, Japan, Australia, and the US-condemned the acts of terrorism, including the 26/11 attacks in Mumbai and the attack in Pathankot, Punjab.

"We strongly condemn terrorism and violent extremism in all its forms and manifestations, including cross-border terrorism. We are dedicated to international cooperation and will collaborate with our regional partners in a comprehensive and sustained manner to enhance our capacity to prevent, detect, and respond to threats posed by terrorism and violent extremism, in accordance with international law," the joint statement emphasized. "We are committed to working together to ensure accountability for the perpetrators of such terrorist attacks."

The statement further reiterated the condemnation of terrorist attacks, specifically mentioning the 26/11 attacks in Mumbai and the attack in Pathankot. It underscored the commitment to pursue designations, as appropriate, through the UN Security Council 1267 Sanctions Committee. Additionally, the Quad countries expressed their intention to enhance cooperation through the newly established Working Group on Counterterrorism, which was announced during the Quad Foreign Ministers' Meeting in March 2023.
