Punjabi Music Icon Surinder Shinda Passes Away At 64: A Look Back at His Legacy

Renowned Punjabi folk singer Surinder Shinda passed away on July 26 after spending 20 days hospitalised in Ludhiana. He was 64 years old. According to reports, Surinder took his last breath at 7:30 am in DMC Hospital, Ludhiana. Prior to that, he was initially admitted to Model Town Hospital before being moved to DMC. Sadly, after 20 days of hospitalization, he was placed on a ventilator and passed away on Wednesday.

Media reports suggest that Surinder Shinda underwent a minor operation at Aurisan Hospital, which led to an infection and breathing difficulties, prompting his hospitalization.

Born on May 20, 1959, in a Ramgharia Sikh family as Surinder Pal Dhammi, better known as Shinda, he hailed from Choti Ayali village in Ludhiana district, Punjab. The singer gained immense popularity for his Kali (chhand) songs, and some of his well-loved tracks include "Jeona Morh" and "Badla Le Layeen Sohneya," which are considered as some of the biggest hits in Punjabi music.

Active in the music industry since 1979, Surinder Shinda delivered numerous chartbuster songs, including "Truck Baliye," "Balbiro Bhabhi," "Kaher Singh Di Mout," "Ucha Burj Lahore Da (Kalian)," "Rakh Ley Clinder Yaara," and "Dilli Shera Diyan Khudiyan." He also made appearances in films like "Putt Jattan De" and "Ucha Dar Babe Nanak Da." In recognition of his contributions, Surinder Shinda received the prestigious Lifetime Achievement award at the 2013 Brit Asia TV Music Awards.
