FIR Registered Against Unidentified Person

The Punjab Police have registered a case under sections 302 (murder) and 114 (abettor present when the offense is committed) of the Indian Penal Code at the Patran Police station in Patiala. The case has been registered against an unidentified person based on the complaint filed by Shubhkaran's father. According to the FIR, the place of occurrence has been identified as Garhi in Haryana's Jind district, which is near Khanauri.

Stalemate Ends, Paving Way for Post-Mortem

The registration of the FIR brings an end to the impasse between the farmers and the Punjab government, clearing the way for the post-mortem examination of Shubhkaran's body. Farmer leaders spearheading the march had insisted on the registration of an FIR before allowing the post-mortem. The body has been kept at the mortuary of Rajindra Hospital in Patiala, and the cremation is expected to take place on Thursday.

Compensation and Demands

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has announced a compensation of Rs 1 crore and a government job for Shubhkaran's sister. The Samyukta Kisan Morcha Non-Political and the Kisan Mazdoor Morcha are leading the agitation to press the Central government to accept their demands, including a legal guarantee on minimum support price for crops and farm loan waiver. Farmers, primarily from Punjab, have been camping at the Shambhu and Khanauri border points as part of the agitation.

Continued Protest and Next Steps

Farmer leaders have declared that the protesters will continue to camp at Khanauri and Shambhu till February 29, when the next course of action will be decided. The ongoing agitation highlights the farmers' determination to secure their demands and ensure a sustainable livelihood.

The registration of the murder case marks a significant development in addressing the concerns raised by the farmers and their families. As the investigation progresses, it is crucial to ensure justice for Shubhkaran Singh and address the underlying issues that led to this tragic incident.
