Punjab Police to Enhance Border Security with Installation of 2,300 CCTVs Across Key Locations

The Punjab Police plans to install 2,300 CCTV cameras across 703 key locations from Pathankot to Fazilka. This initiative aims to bolster the second line of defence and improve surveillance capabilities, according to Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav. The project will cost Rs 45 crore and is part of a broader effort to enhance security in the region.

Punjab Police Installing 2,300 CCTVs for Security

During his visit to Pathankot, DGP Yadav inaugurated several police projects, including a new cybercrime police station. Located on the second floor of Police Station Division-1, this facility is equipped with advanced technology to combat complex cybercrimes. Citizens can report such crimes directly at the station or via the toll-free helpline number 1930.

Enhanced Surveillance in Border Areas

An upgraded police command and control centre was also launched by Yadav. This centre aims to improve security in the border district through the use of CCTV cameras. Currently, 344 high-definition cameras, including automatic number plate readers (ANPR), have been installed for live monitoring of crucial areas such as the second line of defence, rural regions, and Pathankot city. An additional 357 cameras are set to be installed to further strengthen security measures.

Yadav addressed a joint meeting with officers from the state police, Army, and Border Security Force (BSF) at Narot Jaimal Singh Police Station. He emphasised the importance of collaboration among these forces to dismantle networks involving terrorists, gangsters, and drug smugglers allegedly supported by Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence.

Recognition and Security Assessment

The DGP also recognised outstanding officers and personnel from the Punjab Police and BSF with DGP Commendation Discs and appreciation letters. Following this, he visited the BSF's Shaheed Kamaljeet Singh Border Outpost at the India-Pakistan International border. Here, he assessed security arrangements and interacted with deployed security forces.

This comprehensive approach underscores Punjab Police's commitment to enhancing security infrastructure and fostering inter-agency cooperation. By integrating advanced technology and recognising exemplary service, they aim to create a safer environment in border areas.
