Punjab Police Acts Against 203 Accounts Glorifying Gang Violence
The Punjab Police's Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF) has taken significant steps to curb the glorification of gangsters on social media. A senior police official announced that 203 social media accounts have been blocked for promoting violence and extolling gangsters. Among these, 132 accounts were on Facebook and 71 on Instagram.

Social Media Analysis and Actions
The AGTF's social media analysis unit identified numerous accounts using the names of infamous gangsters. These accounts were found uploading content that praised gangsters, claimed responsibility for crimes, and flaunted the killings of rival gang members. The official noted that these accounts were promoting guns and violence, targeting vulnerable sections of society for extortion, and threatening police officers.
Since its inception in April 2022, the AGTF has led operations against gangsters and criminals. The force was established by the AAP government to eradicate gangster activities in the state. The official highlighted that the AGTF has arrested 1,408 gangsters and criminals and neutralised 12 criminals so far. Additionally, 505 gangster modules have been dismantled.
Inter-State Operations
The AGTF has also coordinated with central agencies and police from various states to conduct successful inter-state operations. These operations have led to the arrest of 37 criminals from states including Bihar, Delhi, Haryana, Jammu and Kashmir, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal.
The crackdown on social media accounts is part of a broader strategy to combat gangsterism in Punjab. By blocking these accounts, the AGTF aims to prevent the spread of violent content and reduce the influence of gangsters on vulnerable individuals.
The senior police official emphasised that this action is crucial in maintaining law and order in the state. The AGTF continues to work diligently to identify and take down any content that glorifies criminal activities.
The efforts of the AGTF reflect a commitment to ensuring public safety and curbing the influence of gangsters in Punjab. The task force remains vigilant in monitoring social media platforms for any content that promotes violence or threatens public security.
By blocking these accounts, the AGTF hopes to send a strong message against the glorification of gangsters and deter others from engaging in similar activities. The force's ongoing efforts are aimed at creating a safer environment for all residents of Punjab.
