Punjab Leader of Opposition Partap Singh Bajwa Booked After Misleading Bomb Threat Claims
Punjab's Leader of Opposition, Partap Singh Bajwa, was charged by police for allegedly spreading misleading information that could threaten national unity. This action followed his claim about 50 bombs reaching Punjab. The case was filed at Mohali's Cyber Crime police station under sections related to false information and statements intended to incite enmity, according to sources.

Earlier, a Punjab Police team visited Bajwa's residence to question him about his claims. Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann demanded Bajwa disclose his information source, questioning if he had direct ties with Pakistan. Despite cooperating with the police, Bajwa refused to reveal his sources.
Political Reactions and Accusations
The Congress party accused the AAP government of using intimidation tactics against Bajwa for political reasons. They urged the government not to distract from the serious threat to Punjab's peace. Bajwa criticised Mann, stating that the government is misusing power for personal vendettas rather than serving the people.
Mann criticised Bajwa's claims, stating no intelligence agency had reported such information. He warned of strict action if Bajwa's statement was meant to cause panic. In an interview, Bajwa claimed knowledge of 50 bombs in Punjab, with 18 already exploded and 32 yet to detonate.
Security Concerns and Investigations
Bajwa's claims emerged amid recent grenade attacks in Punjab. A police team led by Assistant Inspector General Ravjot Kaur Grewal visited Bajwa to investigate his statement's source. Grewal stated they sought this information due to national security concerns but received no useful input from Bajwa.
In a video message, Mann questioned Bajwa's information source, asking if he had direct links with Pakistan or received calls from terrorists. He emphasised the need for Bajwa to share any credible information he has with authorities.
Congress Leaders Rally Behind Bajwa
Some Congress leaders supported Bajwa, asserting that his revelations were already public knowledge reported by newspapers. They highlighted recent grenade attacks on police stations and other locations as evidence of the state's security issues.
Bajwa reiterated his stance, refusing to disclose his sources while maintaining his responsibility towards public safety. He criticised Mann for threatening him instead of addressing the issue and accused him of failing in governance.
Government Response and Legal Implications
Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema criticised Bajwa for not providing solid information to ensure public safety. Meanwhile, Mann demanded clarification from the Congress party regarding their involvement with anti-national forces and knowledge of bomb incidents.
Bajwa stated that as Leader of Opposition, he holds a constitutional position and responsibly raises concerns for public safety. He declared he would not be intimidated by threats from the government and would continue serving Punjab's people and upholding the Constitution.
