Gangster-Vigilante Viral Video Not From Our Jails: Punjab Jail Department Refutes Claims

A controversial video of a conversation between gangster Lawrence Bishnoi and cow vigilante Monu Manesar, which went viral on social media, did not originate from any of the jails in Punjab, according to the state's jail department. The department has dismissed reports suggesting that Bishnoi used a mobile phone while in Bathinda jail.

The Punjab jail department has recently dismissed claims that a video featuring notorious gangster Lawrence Bishnoi and cow vigilante Monu Manesar was filmed within any of the state's prisons. The video, which allegedly shows a conversation between the two men, had been widely circulated on social media platforms.

Details of the Viral Video

Lawrence Bishnoi-Monu Manesar Video Call

In the contentious clip, Bishnoi can be seen seated next to another criminal within what appears to be a prison setting. This video has raised concerns about security protocols in Indian jails as it suggests that inmates may have access to mobile phones and other prohibited items.

Criminal Backgrounds of Bishnoi and Manesar

Bishnoi is currently embroiled in multiple legal cases, including one for the murder of popular singer Sidhu Moosewala in Punjab. On the other hand, Manesar faces charges from Rajasthan Police for his alleged involvement in the murders of two Muslim men back in February. Furthermore, he is also accused of inciting recent violent incidents in his home state Haryana. He was arrested by Haryana police on September 12.

Punjab Jail Department's Response

The Punjab jail department issued an official statement denying some media reports suggesting that Bishnoi had used a mobile phone while incarcerated at Bathinda jail. In response to this controversial video's emergence, an investigation into its origin was launched under the supervision of Inspector General of Prisons, Punjab.

Findings from The Inquiry

According to findings from this inquiry shared by the jail department, it was confirmed that Rajkumar alias Raju Bishodhi - another known criminal - was indeed present alongside Bishnoi in said footage. It should be noted that Rajkumar is presently detained at the district jail.

In conclusion, while this video has stirred discussions about prison security and inmate privileges in Punjab's jails, the department's swift denial of these allegations and subsequent investigation highlight their commitment to maintaining order within their facilities. The incident serves as a reminder of the need for constant vigilance and strict enforcement of rules within correctional institutions to prevent any potential misuse or breach of protocols. It further underscores the importance of accurate reporting by media outlets in such sensitive matters.
