Punjab Establishes Flying Squads to Monitor Fertiliser Availability and Quality Control
The Punjab Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare has set up five flying squads to ensure fair distribution of DAP, other fertilisers, quality seeds, and pesticides for the Rabi season. Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Gurmeet Singh Khudian stated these teams will oversee supplies, uphold standards, and conduct regular checks to maintain quality control.

Khudian mentioned that the squads will visit retail and wholesale dealers, as well as manufacturing and marketing units. Their aim is to monitor the prices at which seeds, fertilisers, and pesticides are sold to farmers. This initiative is part of a broader effort to prevent illegal hoarding and black marketing of fertilisers.
Quality Control Measures
From April 1 to October 31, the agriculture department collected 2,063 pesticide samples. This led to the cancellation of 43 licences due to misbranding and the registration of three FIRs. Additionally, 1,751 chemical fertiliser samples, 100 biofertiliser samples, and 40 organic manure samples were taken during this period.
Khudian emphasised the state government's dedication to farmers' welfare. Each flying squad is responsible for monitoring four to five districts. Their task is to ensure the proper sale and supply of seeds, pesticides, and fertilisers, safeguarding farmers' interests.
Monitoring Supply Chains
The flying squads will also keep an eye on the demand and supply of agricultural inputs. This proactive approach aims to address any discrepancies in availability or pricing that could affect farmers adversely.
The initiative underscores the government's commitment to maintaining transparency in the agricultural sector. By ensuring that essential farming inputs are available at fair prices, the government seeks to support farmers effectively during the Rabi season.
