Punjab: 16 with criminal background and 95 crorepatis in new assembly

11 (9%) MLAs have declared serious criminal cases including cases related to murder, attempt to murder, dacoity, robbery etc. Out of 117 MLAs analysed during the Punjab assembly elections in 2012, 5 (4%) MLAs had declared serious criminal cases against themselves.
Three MLAs have declared cases related to murder and attempt to murder. Out of the total 3, 2 MLAs are from INC and 1 is from Lok Insaaf Party. One MLA has declared cases related to crimes against women. Sukhbinder Singh Sarkaria of INC from Raja Sansi constituency.

Financial:
Out of the 117 newly elected MLAs, 95 (81%) are crorepatis. Out of 117 MLAs analysed during Punjab 2012 assembly elections, 103 (88%) MLAs were crorepatis.
Sixty-seven (87%) out of 77 MLAs from INC, 15 (100%) out of 15 MLAs from SAD, 8 (40%) out of 20 MLAs from AAP, 3 (100%) out of 3 MLAs from BJP and 2 (100%) out of 2 MLAs from Lok Insaaf Party have declared assets valued more than Rs 1 crore.
The average of assets per MLA who won in the Punjab 2017 assembly elections is Rs 11.78 crore whereas the average asset for each candidate who contested in the 2017 assembly elections was Rs. 3.49 crore. In 2012, the average assets per 117 MLAs analyzed was Rs. 10.10 crore.
Among major parties, the average assets per MLA for 77 INC MLAs analysed is Rs 12.43 crore, 20 AAP MLAs have average assets of Rs 8.33 crores, 15 SAD MLAs have average assets worth Rs. 14.54 crore, 3 BJP MLAs have average assets worth Rs. 5.20 crore, and 2 Lok Insaaf Party MLAs have average assets of Rs. 10.14 crore.
