Puducherry Exit Poll 2026: NDA Leads, TVK Emerges as New Factor

Puducherry’s electoral picture is beginning to take shape with the release of the India Today–Axis My India exit poll, which points to an advantage for the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in the 30-member Assembly, while also highlighting the growing presence of newer political players.

According to the survey, the NDA is projected to secure between 16 and 20 seats, placing it above the majority mark of 16 and positioning it strongly to form the next government in the Union Territory. The Congress-DMK alliance, a key challenger, is estimated to win between 6 and 8 seats, suggesting it may fall short of mounting a serious challenge if the projections hold.

A notable element of this election is the emergence of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), which is contesting its first Assembly election. The exit poll estimates that TVK could win between 2 and 4 seats, marking a significant debut and indicating that the party has managed to carve out space in a traditionally bipolar contest. Other parties and independents are projected to secure between 1 and 3 seats.

Vote share projections further reinforce the NDA’s lead. The survey suggests the NDA could secure around 40% of the vote, compared to 30% for the Congress-DMK alliance. TVK is estimated to garner 17%, while others account for roughly 13%. These figures indicate a fragmented vote distribution, where even smaller shifts could influence the final outcome in closely contested seats.

The rise of TVK, led by actor Vijay, has added a new dimension to the Puducherry contest. With a focus on youth and urban voters, the party appears to have turned several constituencies into triangular fights. Even with a limited seat projection, its vote share suggests it could play a decisive role in tight races.

Polling in Puducherry was held on April 9, with counting scheduled for May 4 alongside four other regions. As per Election Commission guidelines, exit polls were released only after the final phase of voting concluded on April 29.

While exit polls provide an early indication of voter sentiment, they are not definitive. Still, the India Today–Axis My India survey suggests that the NDA holds the edge in Puducherry, with the final verdict now awaited on counting day.
