PRS Oberoi, The Stalwart Behind Oberoi Hotels' Grandeur, Dies At 94

PRS Oberoi, the chairman emeritus of the Oberoi Group, passed away on Tuesday, as confirmed by a spokesperson for the Oberoi Group. Widely recognized for revolutionizing the hotel industry in India, PRS Oberoi reached the age of 94.

Born in New Delhi in 1929 as Prithvi Raj Singh Oberoi, he served as the executive chairman of EIH Limited, the flagship company of The Oberoi Group. Additionally, he held the position of chairman at Oberoi Hotels Private Limited, a major shareholder of EIH Limited. Affectionately known as "Biki," PRS Oberoi was the son of the late Rai Bahadur MS Oberoi, founder of The Oberoi Group.

Having pursued education in India, the United Kingdom, and Switzerland, PRS Oberoi played a pivotal role not only in managing luxury hotels across various countries but also in spearheading the growth of Oberoi hotels and resorts, as highlighted on the EIH Limited website.

The "Oberoi" brand, under his leadership, became synonymous with exquisite luxury hotels. PRS Oberoi earned acclaim for placing Oberoi hotels prominently on the global map for luxury travelers by establishing upscale establishments in key cities.

In January 2008, PRS Oberoi received the Padma Vibhushan, India's second-highest civilian honor, in recognition of his exceptional contributions to the nation. Furthermore, he was honored with the lifetime achievement award at the International Luxury Travel Market (ILTM) held in Cannes in December 2012.

After a distinguished career, PRS Oberoi stepped down from his roles as chairman and director of EIH Limited on May 3, 2022. His legacy continues to resonate in the world of luxury hospitality.
