Protests Against WAQF Bill Turn Violent In Assam's Silchar; Situation Under Control
The anti-WAQF protests in Assam's Silchar turned violent on Sunday after police tried to move protesters away from key roads. According to the reports, some protesters vandalised public property and pelted stones at police force.
Videos from the protest site show people shouting slogans against BJP's Central and State governments. They were holding black flags and placards demanding to role back the Act.

To control the situation, police had to charge baton sticks. A few people were also detained by the police over disturbing law and order situation charges.
It was learned that more than 400 people were protesting against the WAQF act, recently approved by the Parliament and President.
Talking to media, an official said, "Around 300-400 people were protesting by blocking the road. When we tried to clear the path, a few of them threw stones at us. We had to use mild lathi-charge to disperse the crowd."
Situation Under Control
Police told the media that the situation is now under control and all blocked roads have been cleared.
