Prof Kalburgi murder: Cops closing in on mastermind as vital leads crop up

Bengaluru, Sept 21: Police officials probing the death of Professor M M Kalburgi say that they have vital leads are close to nabbing the alleged mastermind Rudra Patil. A team of the CID has been posted at the Karnataka-Maharashtra border, where Patil was believed to have been last seen.

We are tracking him down and are coordinating with the Maharashtra police as well, an officer part of the probe informed OneIndia. Patil has been termed as a mastermind in the murders of rationalists, Kalburgi, Govind Pansare and Narendra Dhabholkar.

Cops closing in on Kalburgi's mastermind

OneIndia had said on September 18th (Prof Kalburgi murder: Is this the mastermind?) that Rudra Patil has been named the alleged mastermind in the killing of all the three persons.

Patil has been on the wanted list of both the National Investigation Agency and the CBI. The NIA states that there is a red corner alert against him. Patil was placed under the wanted list for his alleged role in the Goa bomb blast case.

The NIA says that he was the one involved in the explosion at Margao and also another blat at Sancoale in Goa.

According to reports of the intelligence bureau and the police, he was spotted at Kolhapur a few days before the murder of Pansare. The reports also suggest that he may have been at Belagavi at the time Kalburgi was murdered.
