Priyanka Gandhi Addresses Rally In Wayanad Ahead Of By-Election, Says Rahul Fighting For Truth

Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Congress General Secretary, recently addressed a rally in Mananthavady, Wayanad. She was joined by Rae Bareli MP Rahul Gandhi. During her speech, she emphasised that the people of Wayanad truly understood her brother's fight for truth. "When a major campaign was unleashed against my brother, it was you who understood that he was fighting for the truth and right," she stated.

Rahul Gandhi also spoke at the event, expressing confidence in Priyanka as an ideal candidate for Wayanad. He remarked, "I am lucky to have her as a sister. Now, you are also lucky to have her as your representative." This statement highlighted his belief in Priyanka's capabilities to serve the constituency effectively.

Focus on Local Issues

Priyanka Gandhi assured the crowd that she would tackle pressing local issues if elected. She mentioned plans to improve facilities at Wayanad Medical College and address job shortages in the area. Additionally, she promised new road constructions and measures to mitigate human-animal conflicts.

Criticising Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government, Priyanka accused it of serving only wealthy businessmen. She claimed that Modi's administration prioritises staying in power over improving citizens' lives. "PM Modi's government works only for his extremely rich businessmen," she said.

Upcoming Election Details

The upcoming by-election in Wayanad is scheduled for November 13, with vote counting set for November 23. Priyanka Gandhi will face BJP's Navya Haridas and CPI leader Sathyan Mokeri from the Left Democratic Front (LDF). Her candidacy follows Rahul vacating the seat after winning both Wayanad and Rae Bareli constituencies in 2024.

Priyanka also criticised the central government's policies, accusing them of favouring business interests over public welfare. "He is taking land and ports away from you and giving it to businessmen," she added during her speech.

The rally marked Priyanka's political plunge into contesting elections in Wayanad. Her decision came after Rahul vacated the seat post his dual victory in two constituencies earlier this year.

As the election date approaches, Priyanka Gandhi aims to connect with voters by addressing their concerns directly. Her focus remains on local development and challenging existing governmental priorities that she believes do not serve the common people.
