Principal’s “End Your Career” Threat Drives 13-Year-Old Skater To Third-Floor Jump

A 13-year-old national-level skating athlete attempted to take his life by jumping from the third floor of his school building in Ratlam, Madhya Pradesh, after the principal allegedly threatened to "end his career," suspend him, and "take away his medals." The incident occurred on Friday at a private school in Dongre Nagar, raising serious questions about the school's approach to discipline.

The Class 8 student, who has represented his district twice at national skating competitions, was rushed to a private hospital in critical condition. Officials have confirmed that he is now stable. The issue reportedly began on Thursday when the boy brought his mobile phone to school-against the rules-and recorded a video in his classroom.

He later uploaded the video on social media. Once the administration discovered this, his parents were called to the school the next morning to discuss the violation.

CCTV footage reviewed by authorities shows the boy entering the principal's office, where he remained for nearly four minutes. The video reveals him apologising repeatedly-saying "sorry" 52 times-clearly appearing scared and stressed. According to his statement to both his family and officials, the principal had allegedly told him his career would be "ended," that he would be suspended, and that his medals would be confiscated.

Terrified by the threat, the young skater-known for his discipline and strong track record-became emotionally overwhelmed.

Moments after leaving the office, CCTV footage shows him sprinting through the corridor before suddenly leaping over the third-floor railing.

Tragically, the student's father was already on the school premises at the time, waiting to meet him. He was unaware that the situation had escalated so drastically.

"I was invited to meet my son. When I reached the school, I found out he had fallen... He has been to nationals twice in skating. I got a call from the school, but then another call came from the school asking me to come straight to the hospital," his father, Pritam Katara, recounted.

SDM Archie Harit confirmed that carrying a mobile phone on campus is prohibited, adding that even teachers are not permitted to keep phones.

"The child is in Class 8. He had brought his phone. He ran and jumped. His condition is stable. An investigation will be conducted... He is a skater with a very good national-level position," Harit said.

The school administration stated that they had planned to speak with the father before taking any punitive action.

District Education Officer Anita Sagar assured that strict action will follow once the investigation concludes.

"Action will be taken after the investigation is completed... We have written a letter to the police to carry out the investigation... The student's family members are demanding action against the school administration," she told reporters.
