President Droupadi Murmu Addresses Nation On Independence Day 2025 Eve

President Droupadi Murmu extended her greetings to the nation on the eve of India's 79th Independence Day, calling it a matter of pride that both Independence Day and Republic Day are celebrated by citizens across the country with "great enthusiasm."

"These are days that especially remind us of our being proud Indians," the President said in her address.

Reflecting on the journey since 1947, President Murmu noted that after regaining freedom, India chose the path of a democracy in which every adult was granted the right to vote. "We, the people of India, gave ourselves the right to shape our own destiny," she said, adding that despite challenges, the country has successfully upheld democratic values.

"For us, our Constitution and our democracy are above everything else," the President emphasised, underscoring the central role these principles play in shaping the nation's progress.

Her address set the tone for Friday's celebrations, which will see Prime Minister Narendra Modi hoist the national flag at the Red Fort and deliver his 12th consecutive Independence Day speech.
