Prashant Kishor's Bold Poll Promise: 'I Will Scrap Bihar's Liquor Ban'
Prashant Kishor, ahead of Jan Suraj's foundation day, vows to repeal Bihar's liquor ban, citing a financial loss and the thriving illegal trade as key reasons.
Poll strategist-turned-politician Prashant Kishor has pledged to abolish Bihar's liquor ban within an hour if his Jan Suraj party wins the next state election.
He made this promise ahead of his party's foundation day on October 2. Kishor, addressing a state-level meeting in Patna, emphasised that no special preparations are needed for the event as have been preparing for two years.

Focus on Bihar's Liquor Ban
Kishor criticised the current prohibition policy, calling it "the most fake one." He highlighted that the state loses nearly ₹20,000 crore annually due to the ban while illegal trade flourishes. Despite potential backlash from women voters who initially supported the ban, he remains firm in his stance against it. "Whether I get the vote of women or not, I will continue speaking against the liquor ban since it is not in the interest of Bihar," he stated.
The prohibition was introduced by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar in 2016 following massive protests by women demanding a complete ban on alcohol. However, opposition parties have criticised its effectiveness, citing deaths and methanol-induced blindness from spurious liquor.
Criticism of Political Rivals
Kishor also took aim at Tejashwi Yadav and Nitish Kumar, accusing both leaders of damaging Bihar's interests. Commenting on their ongoing disputes, he remarked, "This issue is between Nitish Kumar and Tejashwi Yadav, and it doesn't matter who apologised with folded hands to whom; both have caused damage to Bihar." He urged both leaders to step aside for the state's betterment.
In addition to his criticism of the liquor ban, Kishor has been vocal about other policies affecting Bihar's development. He recently mocked Tejashwi Yadav over his educational qualifications and questioned his ability to lead effectively.
Kishor's comments come at a time when Bihar faces significant challenges related to governance and economic development. His bold promises and sharp criticisms aim to position Jan Suraj as a viable alternative in the upcoming elections.
The political landscape in Bihar remains tense as parties prepare for the Vidhan Sabha polls. Kishor's statements are likely to stir further debate on key issues affecting the state.
As October 2 approaches, all eyes will be on Prashant Kishor and his party's strategies. The outcome could significantly impact Bihar's future policies and governance.
