Power Minister ML Khattar Urges Enhanced Coordination Among Power Companies for Electricity Production
Union Minister of Power Manohar Lal Khattar has called for better coordination among power companies to enhance electricity production and distribution. This, he believes, will provide relief to consumers and help prevent financial losses. Speaking at the eighth annual Distribution Utility Meet (DUM) conference, Khattar stressed that energy is vital for strengthening the economy and achieving India's goal of becoming a developed nation by 2047.

Khattar highlighted the importance of increasing power generation across the country. He emphasised that all electricity companies should collaborate to ensure consumers are not overburdened and companies avoid losses. The minister also pointed out the need for greater focus on green and solar energy to reduce carbon emissions, as current energy demand stands at 250 GW and is rising.
Focus on Renewable Energy
The Union minister suggested that states should consider establishing nuclear-based power plants. He noted that the government aims to achieve 500 GW of non-fossil fuel-based power by 2030. This shift towards renewable energy sources is crucial for meeting the growing demand while reducing environmental impact.
Uttar Pradesh's Energy and Urban Development Minister A K Sharma shared insights into the state's progress in solar energy. Ayodhya has been developed as India's first solar city, featuring a 40 MW solar plant. "Street lights, high masts, and boats in the Saryu River are also solar-powered," Sharma stated, adding that plans are underway to develop 16 other cities in the state as solar cities.
Green Energy Initiatives
Khattar underscored the need for accessible energy across all regions. He advocated for an increased focus on renewable energy sources like solar and nuclear power to meet future demands sustainably. These initiatives are part of a broader strategy to reduce reliance on fossil fuels and promote cleaner energy alternatives.
The emphasis on renewable energy aligns with India's commitment to reducing carbon emissions. By investing in green technologies, India aims to balance economic growth with environmental responsibility. The transition to renewable energy is seen as a key factor in achieving long-term sustainability goals.
The conference highlighted the critical role of energy in economic development. By fostering collaboration among power companies and focusing on renewable sources, India aims to secure a stable and sustainable energy future. These efforts are essential for supporting the nation's growth ambitions while addressing environmental challenges.
