Police have filed a chargesheet against dismissed Railway Protection Force (RPF) constable Chetansinh Chaudhary, who is accused of killing his senior colleague and three passengers on a moving train. The accused has been shifted to prison in Akola district.

In a recent development, Mumbai police on Friday filed a chargesheet against dismissed Railway Protection Force (RPF) constable Chetansinh Chaudhary. He is accused of killing his senior colleague and three passengers on a moving train on July 31. The incident took place aboard the Jaipur-Mumbai Central Express near Palghar railway station in Maharashtra.

The 1206-page chargesheet was submitted by the Government Railway Police (GRP) before a magistrate's court in suburban Borivali. Subsequently, it was transferred to the sessions court. Currently, Chaudhary is in judicial custody and has been shifted to a prison in Akola district of Maharashtra. Due to security concerns about producing him physically before the court here, he was presented through video conference, as informed by GRP.

In light of these circumstances, an application stated: "kindly commit the case to sessions court in absence of Chaudhary's physical presence". The police assured that a copy of the chargesheet would be served to Chaudhary while he is still incarcerated.

Legal Proceedings

However, Jaywant Patil - advocate for Chaudhary insisted that his client should be present during such proceedings and requested for issuing a production warrant from the court for him. Following this request, further hearings were adjourned until November 2nd.

Nature Of Charges Against Accused

Chaudhary has been booked under several sections of Indian Penal Code (IPC), including section 302 which pertains to murder and section 153-A which deals with promoting enmity between different groups based on religion, race or place of birth etc., along with others. In addition to these IPC sections; relevant provisions from the Railways Act and Maharashtra Prevention Of Defacement of Property Act have also been invoked against him.

Details of the Incident

The incident unfolded when Chaudhary, aged 34, was caught with his service weapon while trying to escape after passengers pulled the train's emergency chain, causing it to halt near Mira Road suburban station. He allegedly shot dead RPF Assistant Sub-Inspector Tikaram Meena and another passenger in B5 coach with his automatic weapon. After that, he is accused of killing a second passenger in the pantry car and a third one in S6 coach adjacent to the pantry car.

Evidence Against Accused

A GRP official revealed that the chargesheet includes statements from eyewitnesses, victims' family members and a railway employee who was present in the pantry at that time. CCTV footage from inside the train along with videos shot by some passengers - where Chaudhary can be seen speaking are part of evidence accompanying chargesheet too. Some of these videos had gone viral on social media platforms soon after this horrific incident took place.

In conclusion, this case serves as another stark reminder about safety concerns aboard Indian trains. It is hoped that justice will be served swiftly for victims' families who are still reeling under shock from losing their loved ones in such an unfortunate event.
