Police Detain Rottweiler Owner Following Attack on Elderly Woman in Dehradun
Authorities detained a man on Monday after his rottweilers attacked an elderly woman in Jakhan, Rajpur. The incident occurred when Devi, from Kishan Nagar, was heading to a nearby temple. Her cries for help alerted neighbours who managed to rescue her. She was taken to the hospital and remains in critical condition.

Dehradun Senior Superintendent of Police Ajay Singh stated that a complaint was filed by Umang Nirwal, the son of 75-year-old Kaushalya Devi. A case has been registered against the dog owner, Nafees, aged 40. The charges are based on relevant legal sections due to the attack.
Licensing and Legal Action
During the investigation, it was revealed that Nafees had not obtained a licence from the municipal corporation for keeping dangerous dog breeds. The police have taken him into custody for questioning. The authorities are also looking into why the dog owners did not intervene during the attack.
The police plan to work with the municipal corporation to enforce strict measures against those who keep dangerous dogs without proper licensing. This collaboration aims to prevent future incidents involving aggressive dog breeds.
Government Measures on Dangerous Breeds
In response to numerous attacks by dangerous dog breeds, including fatalities, the central government has prohibited the import, breeding, purchase, and sale of 23 foreign dog breeds. This list includes rottweilers, pitbulls, and American bulldogs.
SSP Singh has urged residents to report any sightings of such dogs to either police control room number 112 or their municipal corporation office. This initiative is part of broader efforts to ensure public safety and compliance with regulations regarding dangerous animals.
