PM Modi Wins Varanasi Lok Sabha Seat But Victory Margin Narrows, Check Numbers Here
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has clinched victory in the Varanasi Lok Sabha seat for the third consecutive term. Modi surpassed the Congress' Ajay Rai by a significant margin of over 1.5 lakh votes. In third place stood the Bahujan Samaj Party's Ather Jamal Lari, trailing nearly 5.8 lakh votes behind the Prime Minister.
The BJP has maintained a stronghold over this seat, securing victory nine times since 1991, with only RK Mishra of the Congress managing to break this streak in 2004. Earlier today, Rai, who has contested and lost in the past three general elections from the temple town, briefly posed a challenge that raised hopes among opposition circles.

Initially, Rai led the Prime Minister by 6,223 votes. However, as the day progressed, Modi surged ahead, finishing with a commanding lead of over 6.12 lakh votes.
Despite the joy over Modi's victory, it is likely to be offset by the BJP's underwhelming performance across the state in this election. Despite dominating Uttar Pradesh's electoral landscape since 2014, when a 'Modi wave' swept through the state and the country, securing 61 of its 80 Lok Sabha seats, the party's performance this time falls short of expectations.
According to the Election Commission's data, PM Modi secured victory in the Varanasi Lok Sabha seat in the 2024 Lok Sabha Elections by a margin of 1,52,513 votes. This victory margin marks a significant reduction compared to both the 2019 and 2014 Lok Sabha elections.
In the 2019 Lok Sabha Elections, PM Modi clinched victory with a substantial margin of 4,79,505 votes (45.2%). Similarly, in the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, he emerged victorious with a margin of 3,71,784 votes (36.14%).
