PM Modi to Hold Bilateral Meeting with President Trump During US Visit and Co-Chair AI Summit in France

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to embark on a two-day working visit to the United States starting February 12. During this visit, he will engage in a bilateral meeting with President Donald Trump and interact with business leaders and the Indian community. Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri highlighted that this visit aims to further strengthen the India-US partnership.

PM Modis US Visit and AI Summit Plans

Before heading to the US, Modi will be in France from February 10 to 12. He will co-chair the AI Action Summit with French President Emmanuel Macron. On February 10, Modi will attend a dinner hosted by Macron at the Élysée Palace, which will include several CEOs from the tech industry. The summit will focus on AI applications that are safe and responsible.

Strengthening India-US Relations

The visit to the US underscores the importance of India-US relations, reflecting bipartisan support in America. It offers an opportunity to engage with the new administration on mutual interests. Modi's meeting with Trump will occur in both restricted and delegation-level formats, covering areas like trade, technology, and defence cooperation.

The Indian community in the US, numbering 5.4 million, along with over 350,000 Indian students studying there, plays a significant role in strengthening ties between the two nations. Misri mentioned that a joint statement is expected at the end of Modi's visit to further guide this partnership.

India-France Strategic Partnership

In France, Modi and Macron will hold discussions in various formats and address the India-France CEOs Forum. They will also pay tribute at Mazargues War Cemetery in Marseille and inaugurate a new Consulate General of India there. The leaders will visit Cadarache, home to the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER), highlighting India's involvement in high-science projects.

Misri noted that Modi's visit to France is expected to enhance strategic ties between the two countries. The rapport between Trump and Modi dates back to Trump's first term, indicating strong bilateral relations.

Regional and International Discussions

There may be discussions on regional and international issues during Modi's US visit. When asked about discussing Bangladesh's situation with Trump, Misri mentioned it might be addressed but couldn't confirm specifics. He reiterated India's stance on recent incidents involving Sheikh Mujib's residence and emphasized Bangladesh's responsibility for diplomatic safety.

Questions arose about potential announcements regarding nuclear energy collaboration during Modi's visits. Misri referred to a budget announcement about possible amendments to the Civil Liability Nuclear Damage Act, which could impact international nuclear cooperation with countries like France and the US.

Modi's visit marks his first since Trump's second presidential term began on January 20. After Trump's inauguration, Modi called him to extend congratulations, leading to their upcoming meeting. This visit promises to reinforce commitments made during their previous interactions.
