PM Modi launches LiFE; world leaders hail global movement led by India

Kevadia, Oct 20: As the world gears up for UN climate meet in Egypt next month, India on Thursday launched Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment), a global action plan and appealed to the world to adopt "mindful and deliberate utilisation of resources to save the earth from disastrous consequences of climate change.

Envisaged by PM Modi, it is expected to be an India-led global mass movement that will nudge individual and collective action to protect and preserve the environment.

France

"France looks forward to working with India to make this initiative a success including in the perspective of the Indian presidency of G20 next year," said French President Emmanuel Macron in a video message at the global launch of 'Mission Life'.

"At a time when our world is subject to increasing geopolitical tensions, we've to choose cooperation as no one can address global challenges, especially climate change alone," he added.

Estonia

"Need for collective response to address climate change is stronger than ever. We're grateful to PM Modi for his leadership with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres for lauching 'Mission LiFE'," said Estonia PM Kaja Kallas in her message at the launch of Mission LiFE.

"India has been very active in World Cleanup Day, last year, 1.2 million people took part in it in India which is impressive," she added.

Georgia

"Georgia welcomes & fully supports this global initiative, timely introduced by PM Modi who promotes an environmentally conscious lifestyle that focuses on the principle of mindful and deliberate utilisations," said PM Georgia, Irakli Garibashvili in a message at launch of 'Mission LiFE'.

Madagascar

"I am convinced LiFE could become one of the turning points in our fight against the climate crisis. I thank India through its PM who is an inspiring leader in environmental protection, for bringing us together for this cause," said President of Madagascar, Andry Rajoelina.

United Kingdom

"As democracies, we must work together to secure energy independence & protect economies. We're investing with partners like India to develop vital climate infra. I commend India's leadership in launching Mission Life, lets's keep leading the way," UK PM Liz Truss on Mission LiFE.

Maldives

"PM Modi's Mission LiFE could not have come at a more crucial juncture. Ill effects of climate crisis come at us with full force," said President of Maldives, Ibrahim Mohamed Solih in a video message at the launch of 'Mission LiFE' in Kevadia, Gujarat.

"Mission LiFE aims at following a three-pronged strategy for changing our collective approach towards sustainability. First is by nudging individuals to practice simple yet effective environment-friendly actions in their daily lives (demand); second is by enabling industries and markets to respond swiftly to the changing demand (supply) and; third is to influence government and industrial policy to support both sustainable consumption and production (policy)," according to a press release from PIB.
