PM Modi To Inaugurate New Integrated Terminal At Guwahati Airport

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate the newly constructed integrated terminal building at Lokapriya Gopinath Bardoloi International Airport in Guwahati on December 20, 2025, marking a major upgrade to Assam's aviation infrastructure.

Spread across 1.4 lakh square metres, the new terminal is India's first nature-themed airport facility. It is equipped with 10 aerobridges, 16 self-baggage drop counters and 64 check-in counters, along with in-line security screening systems. The terminal also features modern passenger amenities, including retail outlets, escalators, elevators and upgraded airside infrastructure, aimed at improving overall travel experience and operational efficiency.

With the expansion, the airport's annual passenger handling capacity has more than doubled, increasing from 6 million to 13.1 million passengers, or around 1.3 crore annually. During peak hours, the terminal can accommodate about 4,300 domestic and 200 international passengers. The enhanced capacity is expected to strengthen Guwahati's role as the primary aviation hub for Northeast India and support the region's growing tourism, trade and commercial activity.

The project has been developed at a cost of ₹5,000 crore by the Adani Group under a 50-year lease agreement. Apart from easing congestion and improving connectivity, the expansion is expected to generate employment opportunities and cater to rising air traffic demand. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has described the new terminal as a transformational project that will significantly improve regional connectivity and contribute to the state's "Ease of Living" initiatives.
