PM Modi Stings Congress Over Delhi Drug Haul: 'Use Money To Win Elections'

Prime Minister Narendra Modi slammed the Congress party in relation to a recent Rs 5,000-crore drug bust in Delhi, accusing the party of trying to push the country's youth towards drug use to fund its election campaigns.

On October 2, the Delhi Police seized over 560 kilograms of cocaine and 40 kilograms of hydroponic marijuana, valued at approximately Rs 5,620 crore, from a warehouse in Mahipalpur, south Delhi.

Referring to the incident while addressing a crowd in Maharashtra, PM Modi said, "Drugs worth thousands of crores have been recovered in Delhi. The main accused in this drug racket is a Congress leader. Congress wants to push the youth towards drugs and use that money to contest and win elections."

Five individuals have been arrested in connection with the case, with Tushar Goyal identified as the primary suspect. Goyal reportedly has ties to the Congress party.

Although Congress denied any association with Goyal, controversy arose after he allegedly admitted during interrogation that he had served as the chairman of the RTI cell for the Delhi Pradesh Congress until 2022.

Investigators also found Goyal's social media profile, where he had listed himself as the RTI Cell Chairman for Delhi Pradesh Congress. Congress responded via an X post, stating that Tushar Goyal had been removed from the Delhi Pradesh Youth Congress RTI department in October 2022 due to "anti-party activities" and had no connection with the party since then.

According to the police, the cocaine had been transported to Delhi by road from various states, while the marijuana originated from Phuket, Thailand.

Authorities added that the four arrested individuals had planned to distribute the drugs at concerts, rave parties, and in high-end areas of Delhi and other major cities.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah commented on the case, asserting that the Modi government has a "zero tolerance" policy on drugs and is focused on steering the youth towards education, sports, and innovation.

He accused Congress of allegedly using its political clout to facilitate drug trafficking.

Goyal, who went by the alias "Dikki Goyal" on social media, had posted photos with prominent Congress leaders, including Lok Sabha MP Deepender Singh Hooda and Haryana Congress chief Uday Bhan.
