PM Modi’s Constitution Day Message 2025: Prioritize Duties And Voting For A Developed India

On Constitution Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the citizens of India through a heartfelt letter, urging them to uphold their responsibilities as citizens and actively participate in the democratic process. He stressed that the decisions and policies implemented today will shape the lives of future generations and play a crucial role in building a developed and empowered India. Modi also proposed that schools and colleges celebrate Constitution Day by honoring first-time voters who turn 18, encouraging young citizens to embrace their role in nation-building.

In his letter, the Prime Minister reflected on the adoption of the Constitution on 26th November 1949, highlighting its enduring role in guiding India's growth and progress. He recounted personal experiences, recalling his first visit to Parliament in 2014 and again in 2019 after the election results, where he paid respects to the Constitution in the Central Hall of Samvidhan Sadan, symbolizing his deep reverence for the nation's foundational document. Modi emphasized that the Constitution empowers citizens from all walks of life, enabling dreams and aspirations to transform into reality.

The Prime Minister paid tribute to the members of the Constituent Assembly, led by Dr. Rajendra Prasad, and particularly acknowledged Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, who chaired the Drafting Committee. He also recognized the contributions of the women members of the Assembly whose interventions and insights enriched the Constitution and strengthened its vision. Modi recalled the 60th anniversary of the Constitution in 2010, which included a 'Samvidhan Gaurav Yatra' in Gujarat, and the special celebrations marking 75 years of the Constitution, which saw record public participation nationwide.

This year, Constitution Day holds special significance as it coincides with the 150th birth anniversaries of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and Bhagwan Birsa Munda. Modi highlighted Sardar Patel's role in politically unifying India and guiding the implementation of Articles 370 and 35A, ensuring full constitutional rights in Jammu & Kashmir. He also praised Bhagwan Birsa Munda for inspiring justice, dignity, and empowerment for tribal communities. Additionally, the 150th anniversary of Vande Mataram and the 350th martyrdom anniversary of Sri Guru Teg Bahadur Ji were mentioned as milestones reflecting courage, compassion, and national resolve.

The Prime Minister reiterated the importance of fundamental duties outlined in Article 51A, which guide citizens toward collective social and economic progress. Citing Mahatma Gandhi, Modi emphasized that performing one's duties well strengthens corresponding rights, and that active citizenship is integral to democracy. With 25 years already passed in this century, Modi urged citizens to act with foresight, noting that by 2049 India will mark a hundred years since the Constitution's adoption.

Highlighting the right to vote, Modi encouraged citizens to exercise it responsibly in national, state, and local elections. He proposed special ceremonies in educational institutions to honor first-time voters turning 18, inspiring youth to take pride in their role in strengthening democracy. By cultivating a sense of responsibility and commitment to democratic values, he emphasized, citizens can collectively contribute to India's growth and development.

On this Constitution Day, Prime Minister Modi called upon all Indians to reaffirm their pledge to fulfill their duties, uphold the Constitution, and work toward realizing the vision of a Viksit Bharat, ensuring that the nation progresses in social, economic, and democratic terms.
