The Amir's two-day visit underscored the robust friendship and cooperation between India and Qatar. Both leaders expressed confidence that their renewed partnership would continue to flourish, benefiting citizens of both nations and contributing to regional and global stability. They also agreed to enhance collaboration in information sharing, law enforcement, anti-money laundering, and combating transnational crimes.

Trade and Economic Cooperation

India and Qatar have decided to double their bilateral trade to USD 28 billion over the next five years. This decision was made during talks between Modi and the Amir, where they elevated their relationship to a strategic partnership. Two agreements were signed in the presence of both leaders, reflecting the strong economic ties between the countries.

Both sides acknowledged trade as a key pillar of their economic cooperation and saw potential for further growth. They agreed to explore strategies for enhanced trade diversification and address market-access issues related to goods and services. The possibility of a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement was also discussed.

Investment Opportunities

Qatar praised India's efforts in creating a favourable environment for foreign investments. Qatar expressed interest in exploring investment opportunities across various sectors such as infrastructure, technology, manufacturing, food security, logistics, and hospitality. A commitment from Qatar to invest USD 10 billion in India was announced.

The operationalisation of India's Unified Payment Interface (UPI) at Qatar National Bank's Points of Sales was welcomed by both sides. They looked forward to a nationwide rollout of UPI acceptance in Qatar. Health cooperation was recognised as an important aspect of bilateral ties, with both countries committed to strengthening collaboration in this sector.

Cultural and Educational Exchanges

The two countries welcomed the decision to celebrate the India-Qatar Year of Culture, Friendship, and Sports soon. They emphasised enhancing interactions among educational institutions through academic exchanges, joint research, student exchanges, and university collaborations. The centuries-old people-to-people ties were acknowledged as a fundamental pillar of their relationship.

Qatar appreciated India's extension of e-visa facilities to Qatari nationals, recently announced by the Indian embassy in Doha. Both sides stressed the need for United Nations reforms, including changes to the Security Council.

Earlier discussions focused on trade, investments, technology, energy, and people-to-people ties. These talks further solidified the deep-rooted relationship between India and Qatar. Views on regional and global issues of mutual interest were also exchanged during these meetings.

The leaders reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations through regular cooperation across various areas such as politics, trade, security, energy, culture, education, technology, innovation, sustainability, and people-to-people connections.
