PM Modi Plucks Tea Leaves in Assam, Joins Workers Ahead of Poll Rallies

Prime Minister Narendra Modi spent part of a day-long trip to poll-bound Assam on Wednesday at a tea estate in Dibrugarh district, where Modi joined women workers in plucking leaves before heading to two campaign rallies for BJP candidates in Gogamukh and Behali.

During the stop at Manohari Tea estate, Modi posed for photographs with women employees of the garden and later shared images from the visit, describing them on X as “some glimpses from a tea garden in Dibrugarh,” while highlighting the tea community’s role in the state.

In one post on X, Modi wrote, “We are very proud of the efforts of each and every tea garden family. Their hard work and perseverance have enhanced Assam's pride," underlining the contribution of tea workers as Assam prepares for elections in the coming weeks.

Modi was seen plucking green tea leaves alongside a group of 19 women wearing traditional white sarees with red borders, dropping the leaves into a traditional basket. Modi remained with the workers for nearly half an hour, during which the group interacted informally within the tea bushes.

The Prime Minister listened to concerns raised by the tea garden staff and discussed issues that affect the community, including access to education, the state of healthcare facilities and wage levels. Modi also watched a traditional Jhumur dance performance presented by workers from the estate during the visit.

According to another post by Modi on X, “The plucking of tea leaves was followed by the women talking about their culture and of course a selfie!'' After completing the programme at the garden, Modi continued the visit with planned poll rallies at Gogamukh in Dhemaji district and Behali in Biswanath.

Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi alleged that the Congress, if it comes to power in Assam, will bring in a law to protect infiltrators, which the BJP and its allies will not allow.

Addressing a poll rally at Gogamukh in Dhemaji district, Modi said the Congress' aim is to "turn the majority community into a minority and create a permanent vote bank of infiltrators''.

"Congress leaders are openly saying that they will bring in a new law in Assam to protect infiltrators and are openly supporting them," the PM alleged. He also accused the grand old party of "trying to divide the country as the Muslim League did during Partition".

"The Congress have also stabbed the Constitution prepared by Babasaheb Ambedkar," Modi said.

The Prime Minister said if the BJP returns to power, it will "implement the Uniform Civil Code and safeguard tribals under the Sixth schedule to protect Assam's identity".

''The BJP's 10-year rule heralded a new dawn of 'seva' (service) and 'sushasan' (good governance) in Assam," he said. The PM asserted that all are saying that only the BJP-led NDA can build modern infrastructure in Assam.

"The BJP will make a hat-trick in Assam elections with people's blessings, whereas the Congress will make a century of defeats in elections," he added.
