PM Modi Meets Mudra Yojana Beneficiaries, Says Scheme Turned Dreams Into Reality
Prime Minister Narendra Modi welcomed recipients from all over the nation to his home on Tuesday to commemorate the tenth anniversary of the Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana (PMMY), which he described as a "silent economic revolution" that has empowered millions of Indians, especially those from underprivileged backgrounds.
PM Modi shared his observations from his interactions with the beneficiaries, many of whom have changed their lives and become job creators, and characterized the program as a driver of opportunity and dignity. The Prime Minister declared, "It gives people the opportunity to live their life with dignity," adding that the program has promoted social inclusion and economic independence in addition to financial inclusion.

The Mudra Yojana has disbursed loans totaling over ₹33 lakh crore since its inception, giving the average person vital financial support and opening doors for employment and entrepreneurship. "Every Mudra loan carries with it dignity, self-respect and opportunity," Modi stressed in a post on social media platform X. One of the motivational stories shared was that of Luv Kush Mehra from Bhopal, who started his entrepreneurial journey in 2021 with a ₹5 lakh credit limit under the Mudra loan. His loan has since increased to 9.5 lakh, and his business is now on track to achieve around 50 lakh in turnover, demonstrating how rural youth are becoming self-reliant and career-focused.
The story of a Final-year Bhavnagar student, who used the Mudra loan to start a business while still in college and create jobs for himself and others was another noteworthy one. PM Modi emphasized the program's inclusiveness by pointing out that nearly half of the beneficiaries are from SC, ST, and OBC communities, and that over 70% of the beneficiaries are women.
He emphasized the women playing a steering role in boosting and upholding the true essence of the scheme. Our government will keep working to create a strong ecosystem in the future so that all would-be business owners can obtain credit, which will provide them the self-assurance and growth potential they need," he stated. As the PMMY enters its tenth year, it represents not only a financial endeavor but also a step toward India becoming self-sufficient, one business owner at a time.
History & Significance
On April 8, 2015, the Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana (PMMY) was introduced with the goal of giving small and micro businesses collateral-free loans. The Union Budget 2024-25 raised the maximum loan limit from 10 lakh to 20 lakh, introducing a new Tarun Plus category for loans above 10 lakh and up to 20 lakh. In January 2025, the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises proposed raising the Shishu category limit to 5 lakh and the Kishor category limit to 10 lakh in an effort to further assist small business owners. These improvements demonstrate the government's determination to increase funding for micro-businesses.
