PM Modi Likely to Stay At Willard InterContinental During US Visit: Know All About It
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit the United States from June 21-25 for a state visit at the invitation of President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden. The visit is a reflection of the strong and growing partnership between the two democracies.
During his visit, PM Modi will meet with President Biden and other senior US officials to discuss a wide range of issues, including trade, defense, climate change, and COVID-19. He will also address a joint session of Congress.

According to a report from Firstpost, it is expected that during his visit, PM Modi will once again choose to stay at the prestigious Willard InterContinental Washington DC. This renowned hotel holds great historical significance and is considered one of the most prominent landmarks in the United States.
PM Modi's selection of the Willard InterContinental is not surprising, as he had previously stayed there during his visit in September 2021. The hotel, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, has played host to numerous U.S. presidents, international dignitaries, and renowned celebrities throughout its over 200 years of existence.

The Willard InterContinental Washington DC has a rich history dating back to 1816, when Captain John Tayloe built six row houses at the intersection of 14th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue. The buildings were leased to Joshua Tennyson, who opened a hotel called the City Hotel. The hotel changed hands several times over the next few decades, operating under various names.
In 1847, Henry Willard leased the hotel and renamed it Willard's Hotel. He expanded the hotel to four stories and added a number of amenities, including a dining room, a bar, and a barbershop. Willard's Hotel quickly became a popular destination for politicians, diplomats, and other members of the social elite.

The hotel played a significant role in American history during the 19th century. It was the site of many important meetings and events, including the 1860 Republican National Convention, where Abraham Lincoln was nominated for president. The hotel also hosted a number of foreign dignitaries, including Japanese ambassadors, Russian diplomats, and Queen Victoria's son, the Prince of Wales.
The Willard InterContinental Washington DC continued to be a popular destination for politicians and celebrities throughout the 20th century. It was the site of the 1941 NFL Draft and the 1972 Democratic National Convention. The hotel has also hosted a number of other notable events, including the wedding of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis and Aristotle Onassis in 1968.
