PM Modi Discusses Collaboration in Manufacturing and Tech with Japanese Delegation
Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with a Japanese delegation on Thursday, which included members of Parliament and business leaders. They discussed enhancing cooperation in traditional manufacturing and modern sectors like semiconductors, electric vehicles (EV), and green energy. Modi expressed his pleasure in meeting the Speaker of the House of Representatives of Japan, Nukaga Fukushiro, and his delegation.

Strengthening India-Japan Partnership
The meeting highlighted the strong India-Japan Special Strategic and Global Partnership. It focused on areas of mutual interest, such as people-to-people cooperation and parliamentary exchanges. The Prime Minister's Office (PMO) stated that both sides were satisfied with the progress on the 5 trillion Japanese yen investment target set for 2022-27.
Nukaga Fukushiro proposed nurturing and training the NextGen workforce in various trades, including Japanese language and culture. He emphasised the role of the private sector in these efforts. These trained individuals would act as bridges between India and Japan in the future.
Business Environment and Economic Ties
Modi assured the delegation of India's conducive business environment and reforms aimed at attracting more investment from Japan. He promised full government support for these initiatives. The discussions also covered strengthening cooperation in traditional manufacturing (monozukuri) and modern domains like semiconductors, EVs, and clean energy.
The two sides recognised the importance of completing the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail project successfully and on time. This project is a flagship initiative between India and Japan.
Parliamentary Exchanges
Fukushiro also met Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar and Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla. Birla welcomed the delegation warmly and highlighted India's commitment to women empowerment. He mentioned that several important bills, including the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam, were passed in the first session of the new Parliament House.
Birla described the budget session as crucial and discussed India's economic progress. He noted how the country is advancing in various fields. The meeting underscored the importance of parliamentary exchanges between India and Japan.
The discussions between Modi and the Japanese delegation underscored their commitment to deepening their Special Strategic and Global Partnership. They focused on promoting parliamentary exchanges, investments, skilling, and mobility.
The meeting concluded with both sides expressing satisfaction at the progress made so far. They discussed ways to further consolidate business and economic ties beyond 2027.
