‘PM Modi Is the Only Flag Bearer of Feminism’: Kangana Ranaut Speaks On Women’s Reservation Bill

The debate around the Women's Reservation Bill in Parliament witnessed sharp exchanges and powerful speeches, with BJP MP Kangana Ranaut delivering an emotional and assertive address in the Lok Sabha.

Speaking in support of the Bill, she highlighted the historical significance of women's empowerment and strongly defended the government's intent behind bringing the legislation.

"Isn't This the Best Time to Be a Woman?"

Kangana began her speech by calling the present moment historic for women in India. She questioned whether women had ever received such opportunities and recognition in history, saying that today is perhaps the best time to be a woman. According to her, the government has given women the confidence to live freely and independently.

She connected this moment with India's long history, recalling how women have played powerful roles across different eras. Referring to the Vedic period, she mentioned figures like Gargi and Maitreyi, who were known for their wisdom and knowledge.

Moving to medieval times, she spoke about Rani Lakshmibai's leadership and courage, and also highlighted spiritual icons like Meera Bai and Akka Mahadevi. Through these examples, she tried to show that Indian women have always been strong, but now they are finally being given equal space in politics as well.

"Women Are Leading Everywhere, But Not Enough in Politics"

Kangana pointed out that today, women are excelling in every field, whether it is defence, sports, films, or even space missions like Mangalyaan. However, she stressed that politics remains one area where women are still underrepresented.

Giving an example from her home state, she said that Himachal Pradesh has 68 MLAs, but only one of them is a woman. She used this to underline the urgent need for the Women's Reservation Bill, saying that India cannot claim true equality until women get fair representation in political decision-making.

Attack on Opposition: "Why Delay Women's Rights?"

During her speech, Kangana strongly criticised the opposition, especially the Congress party. Referring to earlier delays in implementing women's reservation, she questioned why such an important issue had been kept pending for decades.

She also reacted to comments made by opposition leaders, including Priyanka Gandhi, who had raised concerns about the government's intentions. Kangana defended Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying that a democratically elected leader would not weaken democracy.

She contrasted this with past political events, indirectly referring to the Emergency era under Indira Gandhi.

Debate on Reservation Percentage

Kangana also addressed questions raised by some leaders about why the Bill provides 33% reservation and not more. She explained that even with 33% reserved seats, women can still contest from general seats. According to her, women's participation in politics could effectively cross 50% when open seats are considered.

She criticised those questioning the timeline of the Bill, saying that instead of delaying it further, it is important to implement it now after decades of waiting.

"India's Changing Reality for Women"

Highlighting social progress, Kangana claimed that for the first time in India's history, the number of female children has surpassed male children in certain data trends. She credited this change to policies under the current government, suggesting that it reflects improving conditions for women in society.

Criticism of Opposition Leaders' Statements

Kangana also took aim at controversial statements made by some politicians regarding women. She cited examples of remarks that were widely criticised, including statements that appeared to justify crimes against women. She also referred to past comments by political leaders that showed disrespect towards women, arguing that such attitudes reflect the mindset of those opposing the Bill.

She further shared her personal experience, mentioning that when she entered politics, derogatory remarks were made about her on social media. She used this to highlight the challenges women face in public life.

"PM Modi Is the Biggest Supporter of Women"

In a strong statement, Kangana said that many women in India believe that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is one of the biggest supporters of women's rights. She described him as a leader who has consistently worked towards empowering women and giving them equal opportunities.

PM Modi and Amit Shah's Stand on Women's Reservation

During the debate, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also addressed the House and emphasised that women's reservation is not a favour but a right that women have long deserved. He said that India should not delay this decision any further and that the country must correct a historical injustice by ensuring proper representation for women in legislatures.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah also supported the Bill, stating that the government is committed to implementing it in a fair and transparent manner. He dismissed concerns raised by the opposition and assured that the process, including delimitation, would not harm any region or group. Shah stressed that the Bill is aimed at strengthening democracy by making it more inclusive.
