Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to launch, dedicate, and lay foundation stones for projects worth over Rs 29,400 crore at the NESCO Exhibition Centre in Goregaon during his Mumbai visit on Saturday, officials confirmed. Among these projects are the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority's (MMRDA) Thane-Borivali and the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation's (BMC) Goregaon Mulund Link Road projects, both featuring twin tunnels.

Thane-Borivali Tunnel Project

An MMRDA spokesperson highlighted that the Thane-Borivali Tunnel Project is being constructed at a cost of Rs 16,600 crore. The twin tube tunnels will pass under Sanjay Gandhi National Park, creating a direct link between Western Express Highway at Borivali and Ghodbunder Road in Thane. This 11.8-kilometre-long road will reduce the journey from Thane to Borivali by 12 kilometres, saving an hour of travel time.

The Prime Minister will also lay the foundation stone for Central Railway's Kalyan yard remodelling and the Gati Shakti MultiModal Cargo Terminal at Turbhe in Navi Mumbai. According to a Central Railway official, remodelling Kalyan Yard will help segregate suburban and long-distance train traffic on the congested network in the Mumbai metropolitan region, improving punctuality and operational efficiency.

Goregaon Mulund Link Road Project

The Rs 6300 crore Goregaon Mulund Link Road (GMLR) project will feature twin tunnels connecting Western Express Highway at Goregaon to Eastern Express Highway at Mulund. A Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation official stated that this project will reduce travel time from 75 minutes to just 25 minutes.

Additionally, Prime Minister Modi will dedicate new platforms at Lokmanya Tilak Terminus (LTT) and extend platforms 10 and 11 at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT). These developments will accommodate more trains and facilitate the running of 24-coach trains, thereby increasing ridership.

Gati Shakti MultiModal Cargo Terminal

The Gati Shakti MultiModal Cargo Terminal aims to enhance capacity for handling cement and other commodities while creating job opportunities in the region. The new platforms at LTT will support more trains, while extended platforms at CSMT will enable the operation of longer trains.

During his visit to Mumbai, Prime Minister Modi will also launch the Mukhyamantri Yuva Karya Prashikshan Yojana with an outlay of Rs 5600 crore. This initiative aims to provide training and employment opportunities for youth in Maharashtra.

The Prime Minister's itinerary includes a visit to the Indian Newspaper Society (INS) Secretariat at Bandra Kurla Complex to inaugurate the INS Towers. This event marks another significant milestone in his Mumbai visit.

These projects are expected to significantly improve infrastructure and connectivity in Mumbai. They aim to reduce travel times, enhance train operations, and create job opportunities, contributing to the city's overall development.
