PM Modi Hails Rekha Patra, BJP's Candidate From Basirhat And Sandeshkhali 'Victim', As 'Shakti Swaroopa'

Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke with Rekha Patra, the BJP candidate for Basirhat, who highlighted the Sandeshkhali issue, praising her as 'Shakti Swaroopa'.

During the 9-minute conversation, PM Modi discussed Patra's campaign preparations and the support for the BJP among the people. Patra shared the challenges faced by women in Sandeshkhali with the prime minister.

The BJP recently announced its list of 111 candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls, including Rekha Patra, former Justice Abhijit Gangopadhyay, and former state BJP chief Dilip Ghosh. Patra, a housewife from Sandeshkhali, is known for her alleged victimization by arrested TMC leader Shajahan Sheikh, who was later suspended by the party.

Patra's selection as the BJP candidate from Basirhat is seen as a significant move, considering her involvement in a group that met Modi on March 6 during his public meeting in Barasat, where they highlighted the plight of women in Sandeshkhali.

Expressing gratitude for her candidature, Rekha Patra stated, "I want to thank PM Modi for the candidature (from Basirhat for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls). I will raise my voice for the Sandeshkali victims."

In response to the Sandeshkhali controversy, the Trinamool Congress has decided to withdraw MP Nusrat Jahan from the Basirhat Lok Sabha seat and has nominated Nurul Islam as her replacement.
