PM Modi Arrives In Brazil For 17th BRICS Summit, Fourth Stop In Five-Nation Tour
Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on July 6, 2025, to attend the 17th BRICS Summit, marking the fourth stop in his five-nation diplomatic tour. This visit is Modi's fourth to Brazil and includes both participation in the multilateral summit and a state visit to Brasília, following an invitation from Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.
At the BRICS Summit, PM Modi will take part in high-level deliberations focused on critical global challenges. The agenda includes discussions on reforming global governance institutions, enhancing peace and security, reinforcing multilateralism, ensuring the ethical use of artificial intelligence, promoting climate action, advancing global health, and addressing key economic and financial issues. On the sidelines, Modi is also scheduled to hold several bilateral meetings with other world leaders.

In Brasília, PM Modi will hold one-on-one talks with President Lula aimed at deepening the strategic partnership between India and Brazil. The discussions will focus on cooperation in diverse areas such as trade, defence, energy, space, technology, agriculture, healthcare, and cultural and people-to-people exchanges.
The BRICS alliance-originally consisting of Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa-has recently expanded to include Saudi Arabia, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, Ethiopia, Indonesia, and Iran, strengthening its position as a major bloc of emerging economies.
Before arriving in Brazil, PM Modi visited Ghana, Trinidad and Tobago, and Argentina. Notably, his stop in Argentina marked the first bilateral visit by an Indian Prime Minister to the country in 57 years.
