PM Modi Warns of AI Misuse in Circulating Fake Videos by Rivals

During a series of campaign rallies across western Maharashtra, Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted the misuse of technology and social media by political adversaries to spread disinformation. In a pointed critique at an election rally in Karad, Satara district, Modi underscored the emergence of fake videos, particularly those created using artificial intelligence (AI), aimed at sowing discord among the populace. He urged vigilance among the citizens, advising them to report any suspicious content to law enforcement agencies.

Modi Flags AI Misuse in Fake Videos

Modi's comments come in the wake of a complaint lodged by the Indian Cybercrime Coordination Centre, leading to an FIR by the Delhi Police Special Cell. The complaint was regarding a manipulated video of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, which misrepresented his statements on reservations. This incident underscores Modi's concerns about attempts to create social tension through technological manipulation.

The Prime Minister also revisited the abrogation of Article 370, emphasizing its significance in extending constitutional benefits, including reservations, to Dalits and Adivasis in Jammu and Kashmir. He accused the Congress of misleading the public on reservations and vowed to prevent any changes to the Constitution that would introduce religion-based reservations.

Addressing wealth redistribution and inheritance tax, Modi criticized the Congress's approach, suggesting it aimed at expropriating properties to favor their specific vote bank. He warned against the potential for invasive measures under a Congress-led government.

In Pune, Modi indirectly referenced NCP SP president Sharad Pawar, attributing political instability in Maharashtra over the past 45 years to "wandering souls" driven by unfulfilled ambitions. Without naming Pawar directly, Modi alluded to his role in destabilizing the state's political landscape since his rebellion against then-chief minister Vasantdada Patil in 1978.

Modi's speeches across Maharashtra painted a picture of a political landscape marred by misinformation and instability. He positioned himself and the BJP as bulwarks against these forces, calling for support for a stable government in the face of these challenges. The Prime Minister's rallying cry was clear: safeguarding the nation from those exploiting technology for nefarious purposes and those whose political ambitions threaten national stability.

The backdrop of these rallies was Modi's assertion that the opposition, particularly the Congress and its INDIA allies, proposed a controversial formula suggesting a rotation of five prime ministers over five years—a plan he vehemently opposed. Modi's campaign trail in Maharashtra thus not only focused on local political dynamics but also addressed broader national concerns, including governance, technology misuse, and constitutional integrity.
