PM announces exgratia for Assam, Rajasthan floods, Mumbai building collapse victims

Compensation was also announced for Ghatkopar building collapse victims

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday announced compensation for victims of Assam and Rajasthan floods and Ghatkopar Building collapse. Rs 2 lakh has been announced as compensation to next of kin for those killed in floods that have affected Assam and Rajasthan.

The Prime minister's officer tweeted details of exgratia approved for victims of calamities. Rs 50,000 has been announced as compensation to those injured severely in the floods as well as Mumbai building collapse. The announcement comes a day before Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit Assam to take stock of the situation.

As per official records, around 85 people have died and more than 2.08 lakh hectares of crop land have been damaged due to floods in the Northeastern state. In Rajasthan, floods have ravaged at least 11 districts. More than 140 people were relocated to safer places in Jalore and Barmer districts. Since July 22, 17 people have died in flood related incidents.

The Ghatkopar building collapse killed 17 people in Mumbai. Those injured will receive Rs 50,000 as exgratia. The Mumbai police arrested Anil Mandal, a civil contractor on Sunday in connection with the case. Survivors have demanded that Shiv Sena leader Sunil Shitap be booked for murder for causing the building collapse.
