PM announces compensation for Assam, Meghalaya flood victims

"Prime Minister Narendra Modi has condoled the loss of lives in the states of Meghalaya and Assam," said a statement from the prime minister's office.
"Before leaving for US, the prime minister has sanctioned an ex-gratia of Rs.2 lakh each to the next of kin of the deceased and Rs.50,000 each to the seriously injured persons from the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund," the statement added.
As of now, 36 people have died and over one lakh others have been rendered homeless in Assam while the death toll in Meghalaya has risen to 46 after massive floods.
