POCSO Act case filed after 14-year-old gives birth at Pithoragarh district hospital

Officials in Pithoragarh said a 14-year-old delivered a baby boy at the district hospital, with the Child Welfare Committee providing consent for treatment. Police registered a case against the alleged father at Munsyari Police Station under the POCSO Act and sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, following the minor’s statement.

A 14-year-old girl delivered a baby boy on Tuesday at the district hospital in Pithoragarh, officials said. After the birth, police registered a case against the newborn’s father. The action followed information shared with local child protection authorities and the police station in Munsyari.

L S Khati, Chairman of the Child Welfare Committee in Pithoragarh, said the girl arrived in strong labour pain. The committee stepped in as the guardian for treatment decisions. It signed the required consent papers, which allowed doctors to carry out a surgical procedure at the hospital.

Khati said a case was registered at Munsyari Police Station under Sections 641, 87, and 5/6 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita Indian Justice Code. The case also includes provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences POCSO Act. Officials said the legal process began after the delivery.

Pithoragarh district hospital case details on father and Pune link

Officials said a young man claimed to be the infant’s father and works in Pune. The girl told the committee that her parents separated when she was very young. Khati said the girl became involved with the young man last year and then moved to Pune.

According to the information received, the girl became pregnant while staying in Pune. Authorities said the girl’s account formed part of the details gathered after the birth. The hospital informed the committee, which then coordinated support and the next steps for care.

Pithoragarh district hospital case care plan through special adoption agency

Khati said that once the girl is discharged from hospital, both mother and newborn will be moved to a special adoption agency. The agency will provide care and support. Khati said this arrangement will continue until the girl reaches the age of 18.
