(Pics) Wardha meet: Rahul Gandhi's 'mantra' of becoming a superpower
Sewagram (Wardha), Jan 25: Rahul Gandhi's meeting with the local leaders in Wardha of Maharashtra was a huge hit, akin to the one he had organised with the women's delegation in Bhopal. Amid discussions pertaining to national issues, what stole the show was his one liner: "One person cannot run this country", purportedly a veiled attack on Narendra Modi.
Addressing the delegates, he said that the devolution of local bodies that was started by Rajiv Gandhi, has to be taken forward now. "Times have changed in politics, we too must change. We must know the grassroots-level worker. We will start by giving tickets to 15 such candidates chosen by you this time. If it works we will implement it in all elections and expand on it."
He further added that empowerment of people is important for taking decisions and that depending on just one person for a country as diverse as India would be unfair. "India cannot become a superpower without empowering women, youth and local bodies," he said.
Describing the party workers as Congress's backbone, he said," "Fight the elections without fear. No power can defeat you." He further added," If we can't offer jobs to crores of youth, if we cannot empower our panchayat pradhans, MPs, MLAs and other people's representatives, our country cannot become a superpower."
Apart from meeting his delegations in Wardha, he also visited education institutions and other cultural events that included planting trees and meeting school children.
