New Delhi, Aug 21: On the occasion of former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi's 71st birth anniversary, many Congress leaders from Karnataka presented 'Rajiv Jyothi' to Congress President Sonia Gandhi on Thursday, Aug 20.
Every year Rajiv Jyothi is taken from Bangalore to New Delhi via Sriperumbudur, Tiruchi, Kerala. The yatra was organised by Karnataka Pradesh Congress Commitee (KPCC), which began on May 15 from Bangalore by KPCC President G Parameshwara.

Several Congress leaders such as Subhash Agarwal, Karnataka Health Minister, UT Khader, AICC Secretary, Sudhakar Reddy, Mamta, SS Prakasham, Congress General Secretary and Incharge Karnataka Dijvijay Singh were present at the event.[Lesser known facts about Rajiv Gandhi]
The nation remembered Rajiv Gandhi on his birth anniversary with several leaders like former prime minister Manmohan Singh, Rahul Gandhi, prime minister Narendra Modi and others paying their tributes.

In 1981, Rajiv Gandhi was elected from Amethi in Parliamentary by-elections. It is said that Rajiv Gandhi remotely had any political ambitions was bound to work as party head after Indra Gandhi assassination.

He was assigned the post of prime minister after Indira Gandhi was assassinated making him the youngest prime minister of the country.
