‘Pattharbaazi aur goli ke mahaul mein baat nahin ho sakti,’ says CM on J&K tension
Jammu and Kashmir CM Mehbooba Mufti stressed on the need of bringing the situation under control in the state before initiating dialogues with various groups.
New Delhi, April 24: After meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi and home minister Rajnath Singh, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti told reporters in the national capital on Monday that unless and until situation in Kashmir was not under control, talks were not possible.
"First, let us take control of the situation, otherwise it's not possible to talk under the shadow of stone pelting and gun shots. (Pehle humein situation ko sambhaalne dijiye, kyunki pattharbaazi aur goli ke mahaul mein baat nahin ho sakti)," said Mufti on if peace parleys would be soon started with various stakeholders in the state.

She also told reporters that talks are a must as initiated by the former Bharatiya Janata Party prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. "We have to start the talks from where Vajpayeeji had left; otherwise the situation in J&K won't change. (Jahan par Vajpayee ji chhor gaye the, wahin se issko aage le jaana padega nahin toh J&K ki haalat sudharne ka koi chance nahin hai)."
"Modiji has repeatedly said that he would follow Vajpayeeji's footsteps, whose policy is of reconciliation not confrontation," Mufti added. The J&K CM also lamented the fact that several youths in the state have taken the path of violence.
"There are some youths who are disillusioned, others are being incited. We will work out something in the Unified command meet tomorrow," she added.
Mufti also reiterated the fact that Late CM and her father Mufti Mohammad Sayeed also stressed on the need of talks with various factions to end the cycle of violence in the state.
"I pressed that J&K doesn't have control over water resources, and how losses caused by Indus Waters Treaty can be compensated," Mufti said regarding her meeting with PM Modi.
"I discussed with PM Modi issue of less voting percentage in recent elections, and security situation in J&K," added the CM.
