Bihar Police Arrest Prime Suspect In Patna University Student Murder Case
In a shocking incident that has gripped Patna, Bihar, the police apprehended Chandan Kumar, the main suspect in the murder of Harsh Raj, a final-year undergraduate student at BN College, Patna University. The arrest took place on Tuesday, following the discovery of Raj's body on the law college campus. Kumar, also a final-year student at Patna College and a resident of Bihta, is currently under interrogation for his involvement in the crime.

The tragic event unfolded on Monday when Raj, aged 22, was assaulted by a group of unidentified individuals as he was leaving his examination centre in the afternoon. Despite being rushed to the hospital by the authorities, Raj succumbed to his injuries. The Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) of Patna, Rajeev Mishra, confirmed Kumar's arrest and his role as the prime suspect in this case.
According to police statements, during interrogation, Kumar admitted to his crime and disclosed the identities of other individuals involved. Initial investigations suggest that an old enmity might have been the motive behind this heinous act. However, officials have stated that the exact cause will only be determined upon the completion of their investigation.
In response to this brutal murder, student groups have organized protest marches across various locations in Patna and near Patna University. Demonstrators have also attempted to disrupt traffic by burning tyres at Kargil Chowk, expressing their outrage over the incident.
The murder has also ignited a political controversy between the opposition Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government in Bihar. Tejashwi Yadav, RJD leader and former Deputy Chief Minister, criticized the current state government for failing to maintain law and order. He described the incident as indicative of 'jungalraj' (lawlessness) and questioned the silence of BJP leaders regarding this matter.
On the other hand, Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha expressed his condolences over the tragic event and assured that efforts are underway to apprehend all individuals involved. He promised that those found guilty would face severe punishment.
This incident has not only highlighted concerns over campus safety but has also brought to light broader issues regarding law and order in Bihar. As investigations continue and political debates rage on, the community seeks justice for Harsh Raj and measures to prevent such tragedies in the future.
