Patna Gangrape And Murder Case: BJP Gives 24-Hour Ultimatum To Nitish Kumar Govt

The Bihar BJP has given a 24-hour ultimatum to the Nitish Kumar government on Thursday, demanding the arrest of the absconding culprits involved in the gangrape case of two Mahadalit minor girls, one of whom was tragically found dead.

Bihar BJP president Samrat Choudhary, after meeting the victims' families in the Phulwari Sharif area on the outskirts of Patna, warned the government that the saffron party would launch an agitation if the perpetrators were not apprehended by Friday.

The incident occurred on Monday, where the two girls were allegedly kidnapped and subjected to gangrape in the Phulwari Sharif area. Unfortunately, one of the girls was found dead, while the other sustained severe injuries and is currently fighting for her life at AIIMS, Patna.

As of Thursday, no arrests have been made in the case, leading to angered locals blocking the Patna-Ara stretch of the national highway for over six hours in protest on Wednesday.

The two girls had gone to collect firewood on Monday but did not return until late at night, as per the locals. On Tuesday morning, the body of the eight-year-old girl was discovered in a field at Hinduni village, while the other girl lay unconscious nearby. A senior police official stated that an FIR was lodged against the unidentified accused under sections of the IPC and POCSO Act, based on the statement of the deceased girl's mother.

Patna Senior Superintendent of Police Rajeev Mishra informed PTI on Thursday that the condition of the victim being treated at AIIMS hospital has improved. Investigators are diligently collecting crucial scientific and forensic evidence to identify the accused.

"We will soon record her statement after the doctors treating her give us the permission. We will also send certain evidence collected during the course of the investigation for DNA sampling, which may be crucial in identifying the accused," stated Rajeev Mishra.
