Passenger Allegedly Clicks Obscene Photos Of Flight Attendant, Co-passenger On SpiceJet Flight

A passenger on a SpiceJet flight from Delhi to Mumbai has been accused of sexually harassing a female flight attendant and a female passenger. The man, who was sitting in the first row, allegedly took pictures of the cabin crew without their consent.

The airline has verified the occurrence and confirmed that the passenger subsequently erased the photographs from his phone and issued an apology for his behavior.

A spokesperson representing the airline clarified, "During the take-off of SpiceJet flight SG157 from Delhi to Mumbai on August 2, a passenger occupying the first row was observed taking pictures of the cabin crew, who were seated on jump seats."

"The crew members addressed the passenger regarding his actions. He removed the images from his phone and expressed regret for his behavior. The passenger also submitted a written apology," the statement detailed.

Meanwhile, the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) has taken independent notice of the incident after a video of the occurrence spread across various social media platforms.

As stated by the panel, "The viral video suggests that a passenger attempted to capture indecent images of a female flight attendant and another female co-passenger. It has been claimed that inappropriate images of the women onboard were found on his mobile phone."

Swati Maliwal, Chairperson of the Delhi Commission for Women, asserted, "Reports of sexual harassment on flights are becoming increasingly frequent, which is utterly unacceptable. In this particular case, registering an FIR is imperative, followed by a comprehensive investigation and just punishment for the guilty party. The DGCA (Directorate General of Civil Aviation) must adopt a zero-tolerance stance against sexual harassment during flights and enforce stringent measures to prevent such incidents in the future."

The Delhi women's panel has dispatched notices to the Delhi Police, the IGI Airport authorities, and the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) in relation to the matter. The Commission has requested information about any filed FIR and subsequent arrests made by the Delhi Police.

Moreover, the women's panel inquired whether the DGCA has taken steps to involve the Internal Complaint Committee addressing workplace sexual harassment, or any other relevant committee. The DCW has called for a detailed account of actions taken against the accused passenger and has requested an action report by August 23.
