The signing ceremony was graced by the presence of Union Jal Shakti Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, and Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma. The Madhya Pradesh government issued a press release highlighting the details and significance of the project.

Project Overview

Chief Minister Mohan Yadav expressed his gratitude for the project's progress under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He emphasized that this project, which had been pending for nearly two decades, will finally take shape. The ERCP link project aims to provide irrigation facilities in 5.6 lakh hectares of land across Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan. Additionally, it will ensure the supply of water for drinking and industrial purposes in 13 districts of Eastern Rajasthan and 13 districts in the Malwa and Chambal regions of Madhya Pradesh.

Benefits for Madhya Pradesh

The project is expected to bring numerous benefits to the state of Madhya Pradesh. It will enhance water availability in the dry belt districts, including Morena, Gwalior, Shivpuri, Guna, Bhind, and Sheopur. Furthermore, the industrialization of the industrial belt districts, such as Indore, Ujjain, Dhar, Agar-Malwa, Shajapur, Dewas, and Rajgarh, will receive a significant boost.

Increased Irrigation and Development

The ERCP link project will lead to an increase in the irrigation area of approximately 3 lakh hectares in the Malwa and Chambal regions of Madhya Pradesh. This will not only boost agricultural productivity but also contribute to the development of religious and tourist centers in these areas. Chief Minister Yadav emphasized that the project will serve as a boon for western Madhya Pradesh.

Project Timeline and Beneficiaries

The project is targeted to be completed within a span of less than 5 years. With an estimated current cost of around Rs 75,000 crore, it is expected to benefit approximately 1.5 crore people in the state.

The signing of the tripartite MoU for the revised Parvati-Kali Sindh-Chambal-Eastern Rajasthan Canal Project marks a significant milestone in addressing the water-related challenges faced by the states of Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan. The project holds immense potential to transform the agricultural landscape, boost industrial growth, and enhance the overall socio-economic development of the region.
